FAQs

Do fire safety regulations apply to my business?

The legislation applies to all business premises and other places where they may be a public gathering from a community hall to an outdoor event [see ‘What premises require a Fire Risk Assessment?’]

Who is responsible for making my premises compliant?

The legislation places a duty of care on employers, owners and occupiers to safeguard premises, staff and members of the public from fire risk. This means that those individuals who have control/responsibility for a workplace; have a tenancy that relates to the maintenance and safety of the workplace; conduct a trade or business from a premises; or own unoccupied premises, are all responsible for ensuring that their premises have been fire risk assessed and are compliant with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.

What can I do if I don't have the time, resources or expertise to carry out a fire risk assessment?

The legislation recognises that there are constraints on both time, skills and resources in all sizes of business, and therefore allows for the person responsible  to engage a suitable external adviser (such as B&K Fire Risk Assessments) to undertake the fire risk assessment on their behalf and to prepare the necessary documentation to show that the business is compliant with fire safety regulations.

How much will a fire risk assessment cost?

Our prices start from as little as £350.

Can I spread the cost of the fire risk assessment?

A monthly or quarterly direct debit can be arranged for your convenience.

How long will a fire risk assessment take?

On average a fire risk assessment will take 3 hours on your premises?

What areas need to be assessed?

A Fire Risk Assessment will require access to all areas of the premises as well as a formal meeting with the individual designated to be responsible for the fire risk assessment of the building.

Do premises have to be closed for an assessment?

No. The Fire Risk Assessment is undertaken within a usual working day and will not disturb normal business activities.

Do I require a fire risk assessment every year?

Yes, the annual review is crucial in keeping the whole assessment and management of the risk process fresh. Every assessment should be reviewed annually at least, if only to check to see if there have been any changes in circumstances.  Other times when an assessment should be undertaken are after an increase in staff, changes to the floor plan or after a fire.
